HERMAN'S
STORY
This
is a story of a little Pekingese that came into my life
shortly after I lost Hope.
A
little, blonde Pekingese wandered the streets of Warner
Robins. He was still very confused about what had happened
to him. Where did the small boy he used to play with
go? The last time he had seen him he had been crying
and begging his mom, their mom, not to leave him. Then
they had put him out of the car on the side of the road
and had driven away. The mom had been crying too. She
had said they just couldn't take care of him anymore
and maybe a nice family would give him a home. What
nice family? All the people he had come in contact with
since that day were not very nice to him. They called
him names and yelled at him to go away. One man even
threw a rock at him. He was so tired and so hungry and
so very sad.
It
was dark again, and he tried to make a bed out of the
pine straw under the tree. He put his head on his paws
and began to whimper. He awoke the next morning and
looked up and saw a lady standing over him. She told
him she knew a place that would find him a nice family.
A
man came and picked him up and took him to another place.
He was put in a big kennel with other dogs. The other
dogs were bigger and stronger than the little Pekingese,
and they weren't very nice to him. They would steal
his food and growl at him. He cried himself to sleep
each night wondering if there would ever be a nice family
that wanted him.
People
would come look at all the dogs. Sometimes they would
leave with one of them. Nobody seemed to want the little,
blonde Pekingese. His blonde hair was dirty from his
days on the street, and he only had one eye. The big
dogs would push him to the back of the kennel when people
would come. He finally stopped trying to look cute.
No one seemed to ever notice him anyway. No nice family
for him.
One
morning he heard one of the men say today was his last
day. The Pekingese didn't know what that meant, but
he knew it was bad. He went over to a corner of the
kennel and started to cry as he waited for his "last
day".
A
lady walked into the kennel and headed toward the Pekingese.
She gently picked him up and said, "I won't let
this be your last day little man. It's going to be your
first day of a wonderful life." The Pekingese knew
in his heart this lady was going to find him a nice
family.
The
lady that took the Pekingese was Lori from the Humane
Society of Houston County. I have only imagined the
story of how he ended up at the pound, but he was scheduled
to be put down the next day. Lori did indeed find Herman
a nice family. He now resides at Endless Love and his
life is filled with many people that love him. He is
a gentle soul with so much love in his heart that he
willingly gives to everyone. He reminds me of Hope in
many ways, but he definitely has his own unique personality.
He is a blessing, and he helped my heart heal from the
loss of Hope. He knows he will never take the part of
my heart that belongs to Hope, but he also knows he
has another part of my heart that will forever be his
and his alone.
Herman
loves to wear clothes just like Hope did. He loves for
you to chase him just like Hope did. He loves to have
his belly rubbed just like Hope did. Unlike Hope, Herman
loves everyone. Hope always loved her mom no matter
what, but she sort of chose who she loved and when she
loved others. You might be her best friend one day and
the next she wouldn't give you the time of day.
I
want to thank the Humane Society of Houston County for
bringing this precious, little man to us at Endless
Love. He adds so much to all of our days. We are so
very thankful to have him as part of our family.
